Reading With Ronald Helps Early Learning Coalition of North Florida Promote Early Literacy

ST.AUGUSTINE, Fla., March 26, 2014 – The Early Learning Coalition of North Florida (ELC) coordinated with Ronald McDonald to present “Reading with Ronald.” These literacy-focused events are in conjunction with Children’s Week, an annual-statewide event that promotes early literacy and other children and family issues in Florida.

Every year, Ronald McDonald reads to four and five-year-old children from local child care programs in six different counties, including Baker, Bradford, Clay, Nassau, Putnam and St. Johns.

This year, Ronald McDonald visited and read to children at six different child care centers. These centers included: Beacon of Hope, Christ View Pre School, Turning Point Christian Academy, Midway Learning Center, Ketterlinus VPK and Backpack University.

ELC provided a bagful of books for every teacher and all children in attendance also received a free book.

“Reading with Ronald is an event ELC looks forward to every year because Ronald always does such a fantastic job for us,” ELC’s Early Literacy Coordinator Joan Whitson said.
